Current Status of Educational Program of Schools of Public Health in Korea and Strategies for Its Improvement


Abstract
Since the first graduate School of Public Health, Seoul National University was established in 1959, eight more schools of public health has been established till 1994 in Korea.
In accordance with the request by Korean dean's association of School of Public health, current educational programs were reviewed on the basis of materials provided by each school. The educational program was not sufficient to fulfill the
objectives of
the program educate and train public health specialist to meet community needs.
In order to develop and/or improve the current educational program of the schools of public health in Korea, following strategies are proposed to call for an organized effort. :
1. Standardize the educational program of school of public health by setting minimum requirement for both master and doctoral programs.
2. Organize and operate accredition committee to monitor the program.
3. Establish student exchange program with transferable credit system among schools of public health.
4. Maximize the effort to recruit full time faculty.
5. Operate periodical faculty workshop on the educational programs annually or biannually.
